On the first weekend in May, the Mariposa Butterfly Festival celebrates the Spanish name of our historic Gold Rush town, "mariposa," meaning "butterfly."
Coming up SOON, an updated version of the annual ** Taste of Mariposa ** fundraising event that you won't want to miss will return on April 14. We're bringing back the silent and live auctions, as well as the local goodies you love, and have added a full BBQ dinner. Click here for details, including where you can purchase discounted advance tickets.
The Butterfly Festival is one of Mariposa County's biggest events, with guests from all over the world coming to enjoy the arts and crafts, parade, entertainment, carnival-type rides, ** a classic car show **, and, of course, ** the releasing of over 5000 butterflies **. The ** Little Miss Butterfly ** contest will also be back, with applications due by April 20. Then festival weekend will kick off on Saturday May 5th at 10 AM with a ** parade **, and continue through Sunday May 6th. Click ** here ** to keep up with the growing lineup of events.
Many thanks to our generous sponsors for making this festival possible: Yosemite Mariposa County Tourism Bureau, Insect Lore, Raley's Supermarkets, Sierra Tel, Steve's Sportsmans Cafe, Tioga Sequoia Craft Brewery, and KRYZ Mariposa Community Radio - and more to come!
